Self Care Spotlight: Nunchi Wellness

Pre-pandemic I thought of self care as a joke or even a luxury that I couldn’t afford. Spa trips, extravagant vacations, and treating yourself with opulent items flashed in my mind when I heard someone was taking a wellness day. My previous thoughts on self care couldn’t be farther from the truth; self care is essential. Self care doesn’t need to be lavish, it can be as simple as making your bed everyday or putting on your favorite eyeliner. Although I’m no expert and am still educating myself on self care, my friend and wellness consultant Nunchi has helped me on my journey.

Nunchi Wellness is a small business based in Oakland centered on self care practices and mental wellness. They offer consultations, free tips via instagram, and in person services such as massage therapy. They are women of color owned, and inclusive to all.

The massages feature styles from Shiatsu to Swedish; the blend of multiple massage techniques result in true relaxation. The unique mix of methods create an experience that is personalized and emphasizes mental and physical wellness.

Nunchi is currently growing her business with the long term goal of helping the under served and underprivileged community access self care. Her eventual goal is to provide free massages and other services to those who can’t afford essential self care. De-stigmatizing and democratizing access to physical and mental wellness therapy drives her business. Self care should not only be for the affluent or those who have premium health insurance. Nunchi is focused on sharing her talents with all demographics and strives to normalize self care for all.

Nunchi has completely helped me see the many benefits of self care and wellness. Her approachable manner and nonjudgmental openness will make you feel comfortable no matter what your preconceptions about self wellness are. Please follow her on instagram @nunchi.wellness and book your massage or consultation with her today.
